CW Wave Shaping

I recently spent a bit of time looking at my Ten Tec Omni D CW envelope on an oscilloscope while working on a relay based QSK system described by AD5X. I was struck with how nice the CW shaping was on my over 30 year old transceiver. Also, last  winter, I spent a few weekends working the big DX Contests at a friends super duper contest station. What amazed me was how many key clicks I heard from the big stations active during these contests. I have heard some of the newer rigs do not have great CW shaping especially on first dit in QSK mode. W8JI has some thoughts on his website regarding key clicks and the newer rigs. Its hard for me to believe that my over 30 year old Omni D and Corsair can do CW and QSK better than the newer rigs. Any thoughts?
