Did a google for K0RU and this QRQcw stuff is what I found.

Wow, amazed to find most of my dear friends here. New to the website and still trying to figure out what I'm suppose to do. Hello to everyone, not sure if this was the proper place to put this. But then I'm learning. Happy Holidays to everyone and see you on the air soon.

I'm glad you found the site, Bob. I got wind of Chuck's site two years ago while working on my ARRL 40 wpm code proficiency sticker.

Checkout Chuck's internet CW site at http://groups.google.com/group/i_cw?hl=en. A group of us meet on Saturdays on the internet to practice our QRQ skills using Fldigi, a virtual soundcard, and a program named MUMBLE to send QSK CW over the internet. The net is a great option for folks like me who live too far away to check into the 40 meter QRQ nets.

By the way, we QSO'ed on 15 July 2009 on 40 cw. I was passing through Beatrice, Nebraska and was able to work you with my W7EL 2 watt transceiver (QST Aug1980) hooked up to a bit of wire in the local Holiday Inn!

Hey Joe,

Wow I remember that QSO, yeah its difficult for me to work those corn huskers on 40 meters.. Glad your doing well, I will have to check out that internet CW stuff, I did play around with something awhile ago call CQ100 or something and it was OK, but got boring very quickly being there was no other ops.

73 and Happy Holidays

Hi Rob,
Thanks for joining us here !

Thought it was very interesting about your favorite KB on your profile info...
wonder if you might tell us a little bit more about your experiences with this VINTAGE CW SENDING GEAR...

also wanted to compliment you on your excellent ham radio desk setup here...
Looks great ! - and wondering what the history is of your gear selection and arrangement is ?

Yeah the Radio Room has turn out very nicely. We converted our attached 1 car garage 14 x 24 into the radio room. There a many photos of the layout, its setup now for Multi/Multi op contesting with 4 stations.

The room has its own Central Heat and A/C unit with a dedicated 100 Amp Power panel for all of the outlets throughout the shack.

hahaha, wow antique gear compared to the stuff we use now. Yeah that was the interface box for the AIR-1 for RTTY. The keyboard also had a CW capability and a little meter that would begin to move full scale as you began exceeding the 32 character type ahead buffer hahaah. In those days it was like finger pecking because I can type over 100 wpm but the buffer just couldnt handle those kinds of speeds on the keyboard so you had to constantly watch the meter movement to make sure you didnt peg out the meter, if you did everything you typed after that was lost and then you had to guess at where you left of typing and where the buffer was at. It was fun and exciting in those day to be able to crank out 50 wpm if I remember I think the top speed for the AIR-1 keyboard was like 75 wpm its been along time, that was back in the mid 70's when I was running that.

It was well designed and built like a tank, it could handle any RF enviornment because most everything you bought back in those days was very well Shielded, not like the Plastic enclosure stuff you buy today anyway.

Thanks for the memories
Rob - K0RU 73
