So many of the newer computers do not have a serial port, only USB ports. Can I set this up if my computer does not have a serial port?

Yes, if you have a spare USB PORT you can purchase a USB to SERIAL PORT adapter.

This demo was actually done with a USB TO SERIAL PORT ADAPTER, since on my laptop I do not have a serial port.  I have heard that these adapters that use the FTDI chipset are the best...so look for one that uses this FTDI CHIP SET...like this one from AMAZON

might be better with a USB EXTENDER CABLE like this one from AMAZON
