An excellent article but I mildly disagree with Fred W3NJZ on the arbitrary start point of 60 wpm CW. I think for those of us whose keyboarding skill doen't reach those speeds and are consequently stuck on keys/paddles 45 to 50 would be a fairer start point.......Realistically you dont hear much stuff on the bands in ordinary conversational CW much over 40 wpm. My feeling is that to carry on a paddled conversation at 45-50 plus wpm is a whole other art form in itself if you will.....Its tough to stay clean and coherent at those speeds but a joy to hear when you hear it....Nonetheless for the ops who can type at 60+ wpm, my hats off to you!!
