How many years have you been performing QRQ CW
I don't really know - I was playing around with various speed settings for a while when I, more or less accidentally, received a recommendation for the German Radio Telegraphy High Speed Club in the middle of 2013. That sparked my curiosity about how fast and proficient one can get in what amount of time and ever since then my main goal, next to having fun, is working on that. I've really enjoyed it so far and for me the journey is the destination.
What speed do you like to run QRQ CW
Paddle speed: 40 - 50 WPM
Keyboard speed: 50 - 75 WPM
(effective Jul 2017)
Your favorite key, paddle or bug
Begali Sculpture
Your favorite cw keyboard
My standard Microsoft Wired Keyboard 500, but I don't have any expertise in choosing a particular keyboard for CW.
Your favorite cw sending software
-
Your Rig, Antenna and RF Power
Elecraft K3, poorly working SteppIR BigIR at various power levels
Your QSK preferences
Full break-in, which works perfectly in the K3 (no annoying RX/TX relay!)
Your favorite headphones or speakers for listening to cw
Bose QuietComfort 25
What has been your most effective way of training practice, to copy and send qrq cw
I like to have or listen to QRQ ragchew QSOs. I think working at the limit of ones capabilities seems to be the best way for improvement.

Elecraft K3(S) IF filter study - OEM vs Aftermarket

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, I found some relatively cheap Chinese K3(S) IF filters on eBay. Since I recently purchased a K3 (with the new synthesizer), I was wondering if the offered 250 Hz and 500 Hz filters are any good. I ordered two of each variant and a 200 Hz filter from Elecraft, in order to have some comparison models. I also measured the filters that were already present in my rig and concluded which filter combination and settings are best in my…

Thanks Wolfgang,
It will probably be slow going. Not so many braincells as when I was younger. Also had a severe brain injury about ten years ago, and they told my wife I wouldn't last the night. Thanks to a loving God and a darned good neurosurgeon, and about $58,000 for a wonder drug, I was back to work as a Deputy Sheriff in just 6 weeks! So, if the ole brain is not as quick as it once was...at least it still functions after a fashion, so I'll get it in due time. After all, I took the Ham Exam just this year and only missed one question! So..anything is possible with a wee bit of hard work.
Thanks for the kind words,
David
